Menamparampil Thomas

Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil SDB was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Diocese of Jowai, India, by Pope Francis on 3 February 2014. For 20 years he was the Former Archbishop of Guwahati and Bishop of Dibrugarh for 11 years, and also served as Chair of the Regional Bishops’ Conference of Northeast India; Chair of the Commission for Education and Culture, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India; Special Secretary for the Asian Synod; Chairman of the Office of Evangelization, Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences Office of Evangelization. Archbishop Menamparampil acted as mediator in the conflict between various ethnic groups in the Indian state of Assam, and in this context he coordinated the “Joint Ecumenical Peace Team”. He is the author of hundreds of written works on a variety of subjects, such as evangelism, culture, ministry, education, religious life, and prayer. In recognition of his continued commitment to the advancement of peace, dialogue, and reconciliation, Archbishop Menamparampil was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011.
